Nam Yoon Do (남윤도), conocido artísticamente como Eric Nam (에릭남) nació en Atlanta (EEUU) en 1988. En la actualidad trabaja para la agencia B2M Entertainment. Debutó en Corea el 23 de enero de 2013 con su primer álbum CLOUD 9, y el 26 de enero realizó su primera actuación en la TV en el programa Music Core, interpretando su tema Heaven’s Door.
En la seguna edición del programa Star Audition, el 2012, Eric participó obteniendo el 5º puesto entre los finalistas. Y este año, presenta junto a Han Byul (del grupo LED Apple) el programa After School Club, que se emite en la cadena Arirang simultáneamente en más de 50 países (a las 17:00h hora de Corea).
Eric es un gran músico y un apasionado de los viajes. Ha visitado España y muchos países de América latina, y se defiende bastante bien hablando el español. Muy amablemente ha concedido una entrevista a Han-A que podéis encontrar a continuación.
1. ¿Cuándo y cómo decidiste ser músico?
Creo que si es realmente «decidirse» fue en mayo de 2012. Siguiendo mi instinto en MBC Star Audition, tenía un enorme dilema sobre si debía volver a mi trabajo como consultor o si debía seguir una carrera musical. Después de mucha deliberación y con muchos consejos de mis amigos, padres, y mentores decidí dedicarme a la música.
2. ¿Cómo fue el momento en el que tu compañía actual, B2M Entertainment, te ofreció un contrato?, ¿Cuáles fueron tus pensamientos cuando pasaste de ser un aficionado de la música a ser un profesional?
Estaba muy agradecido. Cuando estaba buscando una compañía, tuve reuniones con muchas compañías de entretenimiento y estaba muy agradecido de que la gente estuviera dispuesta a invertir en mi y darme la oportunidad de dedicarme a la música. Asi que, definitivamente estaba agradecido, feliz, y esperando el poder hacer buena música.
3. ¿Te gustaría probar otros estilos musicales? ¿Cuáles?
¡Si! ¡Claro que si! Quiero probar un poco de todo. Más R&B, jazz, algo de rock, incluso puede que hip hop. No quiero limitarme a mi mismo y jugar con muchos géneros. Quiero cantar y escribir canciones que hagan sentir bien y conecten conmigo y con aquellos que la escuchen.
4. ¿Has pensado en hacer algo como actor?
Me gustaría mucho… No sé si sería bueno en ello, pero sin duda creo que sería divertido y una experencia agradable. Probablemente sea muy difícil, pero si me gustaría hacerlo si es posible.
5. Sabemos que has estado en España ¿recuerdas alguna anécdota que te ocurriera en nuestro país?
Visité Madrid, Barcelona y Toledo y lo pasé muy bien. Evidentemente vimos muchos de los puntos turisticos, pero pensé que era un país hermoso y la comida era deliciosa y quise quedarme más tiempo. Me encantaría visitar algunas ciudades más como Granada, Bilbao, Valencia, y algunas otras. Creo que una de las cosas más memorables sobre Madrid fue que pude ir a ver un partido del Real Madrid contra el Levante y el Real Madrid dominó el partido. Ronaldo marcó un hat trick y creo que el resultado fue ¡8-0! ¡Fue muy divertido el ir a un partido! ^^
6. ¿Qué tal tu experiencia como presentador en After School Club? ¿Puedes contarnos alguna experiencia de la grabación del programa?
After school club es un show divertido que presento junto a Hanbyul. Es un programa divertido pero también es una experiencia estresante porque ¡todo se hace en VIVO! ¡En vivo! Y estamos traduciendo en coreano e inglés constantemente, asi que un poco frenético pero es muy divertido conectar con los fans y conocer a otros cantantes de la industria. Tengo muchas ganas de ver cómo el show sigue desarrollándose. ¡Espero que podamos recibir algunas llamadas de fans de España! Creo que no hemos tenido ningún fan español todavia.
7. ¿Con qué artista de B2M Entertainment te gustaría colaborar?
Francamente, todos ellos. Lee Hyori, Spica, Young Saeng y Kyu Jong son increíblemente increíblemente talentosos y guays asi que me gustaría estar en algunas canciones con ellos. ¡Esperemos que pase en algún momento!
8. ¿Tienes pensado hacer una nueva cover o ya son algo del pasado?
Mmm ¿sabéis? creo que voy a hacer una nueva cover. Parte de la razón por la que no puedo hacer covers en Corea es porque no tengo equipo de grabación ni ningún sitio dónde grabar. Comprar todo el equipamiento requerido es muy muy caro, desde un micrófono hasta el software para un Mac, etc. así que ha sido un poco frustrante, pero estoy ahorrando y con un poco de suerte podré hacer algunas covers en el futuro. ¿Hay algo que os gustaría escuchar? 😉
9. ¿Cuáles son tus planes de futuro? ¿Tendremos pronto un nuevo single de Eric Nam?
Por ahora, estoy trabajando solo en tv y radio. Los sábados estoy en MBC SectionTV que es un programa de noticias/entrevistas de celebridades. Los miércoles estoy en After School Club de Arirang. Los jueves estoy en MBC Radio a la 1:00pm. Probablemente continuaré trabajando en estos programas y necesitaré empezar a escribir canciones para el nuevo single/ep/album sea lo que sea. ¡Espero que el nuevo material no tarde mucho! ¡Por favor seguid animándome!

A todos mis fans, amigos y amigas españolas…. Mil gracias por todo su amor y apoyo y sus mensajes y todo. Jaja gracias. Sois geniales y realmente espero el poder visitar España en un futuro próximo. Quiero conoceros a todos vosotros y salir por ahí y comer paella y jamón y pasarlo bien. 1. When and how did you decide to be a musician?
I guess if it’s actually «deciding» it was in May of 2012. Following my stint on MBC Star Audition, I had a huge dilemma of whether or not I should return to my consulting job or if I should pursue a career in music. After lots of deliberation and getting a lot of advice from my friends, parents, and mentors I decided to pursue music.
2. How were the moment when your current company, B2M Entertainment, offered you to sign a contract, what were your thoughts when you went from a music fan to a professional?
I was very thankful. When I was looking for a company, I had meetings with many entertainment companies and I was just very thankful that people were willing to invest in me and provide me with the opportunity to pursue music. So, I was definitely just thankful, happy, and hopeful that I could make some great music.
3. Would you like to try other music styles? Which one?
Yes! Claro q is! I really want to try a bit of everything. More R&B, jazz, some rock, maybe even hip hop. I don’t want to limit myself from playing with multiple genres. I want to sing and write music that just feels good and connects to me and those who listen to it.
4. Did you think about doing something as an actor?
I would really like to… I dont know if I would be good a it, but I definitely think that it would be fun and a really cool experience. It’s probably really hard, but yes I would really like to pursue it if it’s possible.
5. We know that you’ve been in Spain, did you remember some anecdotes that happened in our country?
I visited Madrid, Barcelona and Toledo and I had an awesome awesome time. Obviously we saw a lot of the tourist places, but for me I just thought it was a beautiful country and the food was delicious and I wanted to stay longer. I would really like to visit some more cities such as Granada, Bilbao, Valencia, and some others. I think one of the most memorable things about Madrid was that I was able to go see a Real Madrid game against Levante and Real dominated the game. Ronaldo scored a hat trick and I think the score was 8-0! So much fun to go to a game! ^^
6. How is your experience as a host in After School Club? Can you tell us something about the recording of the program?
After school club is a fun show that I am co hosting with Hanbyul. Its a fun show but it’s definitely a stressful experience as well because everything is done LIVE! En vivo! And we’re translating between Korean and English constantly, so it’s pretty hectic but it’s so fun to connect with fans and meet other singers that are in the industry. Im really looking forward to how the show continues to develop. Hopefully we can have some fans from Spain call in! I don’t think we’ve had any Spanish fans yet!
7. With which B2M Entertainment artist would you like to do a collaboration?
Honestly, all of them. Lee Hyori, Spica, Young Saeng and Kyu Jong are all incredibly incredibly talented and super cool so I would love to get on some great tracks with them. Hopefully it will happen at some point!
8. Are you planning on doing a new cover or are they part of the past?
Hmm you know I think I am going to do a new cover. Part of the reason that I could not do covers in korea is because I dont have any recording gear or a place to record here. Buying all of the required equipment is very very expensive, from a microphone to software to a Mac, etc. so it’s been a bit frustrating, but I’m saving up and hopefully I’ll be able to do a few covers in the future. Anything you’d like to hear? 😉
9. What are your future plans? Will we soon have a new Eric Nam single?
For now, I’m just working on tv and radio. On Sundays I’m on MBC SectionTV which is a celebrity news/interview show. Wednesdays I’m on Arirang’s After School Club. Thursdays I’m on MBC Radio at 1:00pm. I’ll probably continue working on these shows and then will need to start writing some music for the next single/ep/album whatever it may be. Hopefully new material won’t be too far away! Please keep rooting for me!
